Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a vital role in many of the body’s activities.
TYPES
There are two types of vitamin A which include:
- Preformed vitamin A, also called retinol (found in animal products) &
- Pro-vitamin A (a type of beta-carotene). The preformed vitamin is (the active form of the vitamin) found (in animal sources) such as fortified milk, eggs, meat, cheese, liver, halibut fish oil, cream, and kidneys.
- Pro-vitamin A (the inactive form) of the vitamin is found (in plant-based foods) such as Cantaloupe, Pink grapefruit, apricots, carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, dark green leafy vegetables, broccoli.
Benefits of Vitamin A include the following:
- Healthy eyes/good vision

- Anti-oxidative properties (helps prevent some forms of cancer)
